Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” – Luke 4:8

Worship is the heart of the community.

Covenant’s worship draws you into the curve of God’s smile by inviting the congregation into participation in ways that reflect a deeply rooted Reformed tradition alongside comfortable, contemporary music, liturgy, and preaching.  Some highlights of Covenant’s worship:

  • Covenant has a longstanding history with the Scottish tradition of bringing the Bible into worship at the start of each service. This was begun by beloved pastor Rev. Jim Riach. When we stand for the “Entry of the Word” we are showing reverence to the Holy Scriptures and highlighting the centrality of the Scripture to our worship and daily living.
  • Our music program brings variety to our services and ushers in the Holy Spirit each Sunday. Our hymns, anthems, and instrumental selections enhance the depth and breadth of the Word proclaimed.
  • Covenant strongly believes in the church as being a “priesthood of all believers.” To that end we have opportunities for all members to participate in worship. We frequently have congregation members serve as liturgists or present mission opportunities. Our youth lead worship services twice a year and also serve as ushers and greeters monthly.  Our children also lead worship twice a year and are invited to participate in worship throughout the summer.

Description of our music program:

  • We have a talented and dedicated chancel choir directed by Richard Rudolph and accompanied by accomplished organist, Krista Shinew. In addition to our choir we also have an Adult Hand-bell Choir.  Covenant also boasts the support of a Spiritual Steele, a Steel Drum group.  We are blessed to have incredible musicians in our church and frequently enjoy the talents of Jazz musician, Tom Floyd and 360 Band, members of our congregation.  Christmas and Easter seasons present opportunities for special music programs and our Easter services are often enhanced by local artists, The Brass 5.
  • Candace Blair has been serving as our Children’s Music director since 2014. We are blessed to have her with us leading our children in music weekly.  The children enhance our worship services with their music several times a year and enjoy Candace’s leadership at Vacation Bible School.  Candace also leads music for Covenant Presbyterian Preschool.
